MSC's Private Island to Temporarily Close in 2024 for Updates

MSC Cruises' private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, will temporarily close on April 7, 2024. The island, located in the Bahamas, is a popular destination for MSC cruise passengers. It features a variety of amenities, including seven beach areas, motorized and non-motorized water activities including kayaking, snorkeling, catamaran sailing, and jet skiing. Ocean Cay is also home to food options sure to please the whole family including 10 beach bars, an ice cream bar, and food trucks.

The closure of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is expected to last for six weeks and will affect multiple cruise ships including MSC Seashore, MSC Seascape, MSC Divina, and MSC Meraviglia. In the meantime, MSC Cruises will offer alternative itineraries for passengers who were planning to visit the island. These itineraries will include stops at other popular destinations in the Bahamas, such as Nassau, Freeport, and Great Stirrup Cay.

MSC Cruises said that the decision to close Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve was made in order to ensure that the island remains a premier destination for its guests. The company said that the enhancements will make the island even more attractive to visitors.

The temporary closure of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is a bit of a disappointment for some cruise passengers who had been planning to visit the island. However, the enhancements that are being made should make the island even more enjoyable for future visitors. Another exciting addition for MSC will be a new ship to the fleet, the MSC World America that is slated to set sail in Spring of 2025. To get more information on MSC, click here.
