A Year-Round Winter Wonderland
 

Indoor ski facilities are becoming increasingly popular as a way to enjoy the winter sports all year round. These facilities offer a variety of slopes and terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, as well as other winter activities such as snow tubing and ice skating.

There are indoor ski facilities located all over the world, from major cities to smaller towns. The list below represents some of the most notable facilities worldwide.

 

 

Ski Dubai (Dubai, United Arab Emirates):

Ski Dubai is an indoor ski resort located in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the world's largest indoor ski resort, with a total area of 22,500 square meters (242,000 square feet). The resort has 5 slopes, with a total vertical drop of 85 meters (279 feet). Ski Dubai also offers a variety of other winter activities, such as snow tubing, ice skating, and a penguin encounter.

Big Snow (East Rutherford New Jersey): 

Located in the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, this is the first and only indoor ski resort in North America.  A beginner slope, intermediate slope, and terrain park are all included in the 3 acre ski facility with 160 feet of vertical drop.  Group and private lessons are offered for all skill levels and ages and rental equipment is available.  Kids will also enjoy sledding, building snowmen, and having snowball fights.  Multiple food and beverage options are available and there is a ski shop on-site.

SnowWorld (Landgraaf, Netherlands):

SnowWorld is one of the largest indoor ski resorts in the world.  With multiple slopes catering to different skill levels, beginners and seasoned skiers alike can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and even cross-country skiing.  SnowWorld also features a snow park for freestyle enthusiasts, as well restaurants and ships to enhance the overall experience.

SnowWorld Terneuzen (Terneuzen, Netherlands):

This resort features a variety of terrain suitable for skiers and boarders of all levels.  There are separate slopes dedicated to practicing techniques, honing skills, and simply having fun.  The slopes are meticulously maintained which ensures great snow quality.  Professional instructors (lessons as young at 3 years old) and rental equipment are available, making it a great place for beginners.  Beyond skiing and riding, it also features a snowpark with rails, jumps, and other features.  To round out the experience, SnowWorld offers a restaurant and bar.

SnowWorld has multiple locations across Europe including locations in France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Alpincenter Bottrop (Bottrop, Germany):

With a length of over 640 meters, visitors can enjoy a lengthy ski slope for skiing, snowboarding, and tobogganing.  The resort caters to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced winter sport enthusiasts, providing a variety of slopes and training facilities.  They also offer a snow park for freestyle activities and a panoramic restaurant with stunning views.

SnowPlanet (Auckland, New Zealand):

SnowPlanet Auckland is New Zealand's only indoor snow park. It is located in Silverdale on the Hibiscus Coast, 29 minutes north of Auckland. The snow park has a variety of activities for all ages, including skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing, and ice skating.  In addition, a Winter Wonderland facility offers a great place to take photos, have a snowball fight, or simply relax in the snow.

Ski Egypt (Cairo, Egypt):

Experience the thrill of winter sports in the desert.  Skiing, snowboarding, and tubing can all be enjoyed year-round.  The resort also features an interactive snowpark where visitors can build a snowman, have a snowball fight, or simply just enjoy the snowy scene.  Ski Egypt has a penguin encounter zone allowing guests to interact with some adorable penguins.

Chill Factore (Manchester, United Kingdom):

The main highlight at Chill Factore is the indoor ski slope, which is the longest in the UK.  Instructors are available to provide lessons to beginners or those looking to improve their skills.  Also offered are ice slides, sledging, and snow play activities like a climbing wall made of ice.  There are a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, allowing visitors to relax, refuel, and enjoy a hot meal or drink after a day on the (indoor) slopes.

SnowDome (Tamworth, United Kingdom):

SnowDome offers an indoor ski slope measuring in at 170 meters long.  The facility offers skiing and snowboarding lessons for those looking to improve.  The snowplay area allows families to experience tubing, sledging, and snowball fights.  There is even a dedicated area for toddlers to enjoy their first experience with snow.  After a day on snow, families can head to the resort's restaurants and cafes.

Snow Arena (Druskininkai, Lithuania):

Snow Arena features multiple slopes with a 4-person chairlift, carpet lift, and rope tow.  One of the largest attractions at the Snow Arena is the Snow Park. Its features are replaced monthly according to the newest style trends. Visitors are also offered a chance to learn and improve their skiing skills together with professional instructors. Different events regularly take place in the restaurants found at the arena, including wine tasting, DJ nights, competitions and night skiing sessions. 

Montana Snowcenter (Valkenswaard, Netherlands):

Montana Snowcenter has a small and a large slope. On the large slope, experienced skiers can let it rip and, for beginners, there is a small slope where ski lessons / snowboard lessons are given.  Families are welcome here and lessons are offered for children as young as 3.  There is a café-restaurant located at the bottom of the hill with views of the slope. 

 

Guangzhou Indoor Ski Resort (Guangzhou, China):

Advertised as the 2nd largest indoor ski facility in the world, this resort in China prides itself on making an easy winter experience for its customers.  Gear and winter clothing are included in the entrance price and lessons are offered in multiple languages.  5 slopes allow participants of all skill levels to enjoy some time on snow.  Also located in the Sunac Mall, is a waterpark and several hotels are nearby to round-out your experience.

The facilities are located in several other locations across China.
